Mississippi Racer Collects $17,000 with Back-To-Back Wins

COLUMBUS, Miss. (06/15/24) – Inheriting the lead when Ethan Dotson suffered mechanical woes, Spencer Hughes led the final 12 laps to complete the weekend of the Clash at the Mag with the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series Super Late Models.

The Saturday night triumph was worth $12,000 at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Miss.) and paired with his Saturday night victory pushed his weekend take to over $17,000.

“I knew we wasn’t bad right there, I just wasn’t very good on the cushion,” Hughes said in Victory Lane. “We really just needed some green flag laps, so once this (track) cleaned up, you could race all over it. It’s awesome seeing all these fans out here, I seen so many new t-shirts walking around too, I appreciate all y’all supporting us and glad finally able to come back here in front of a packed house and put on a good show.”

NewVisionCustomShirts.com Pole Sitter John Henderson brought the field to the green flag with Kaden Honeycutt starting to his outside.

For the first time in his career Honeycutt grabbed the lead as the feature started, and paced the first 26 circuits before the third-starting Ethan Dotson took control. Dotson stayed out front until bad luck bit him for the second-straight night. A mechanical failure on the 38th circuit caused him to stop, bringing out the race’s sixth-and-final caution.

Hughes assumed the point and paced the final 12 circuits on his way to his second win in as many nights, and the fourth series triumph of his career.

Fifth-starting Josh Putnam finished second with Chad Thrash, 12th-starting Clay Stuckey, and 13th-starting Sam Seawright completed the Top-5 finishers.

Logan Martin was the MD3 Bodies Hard Charger, advancing 14 spots to finish eighth.

On the heels of his weekend performances, Logan Martin existed the weekend as the Midwest Sheet Metal Marked Man with a 15-point advantage over Morgan Bagley atop the series standings.

The tour continues the 2024 season July 26 at Texarkana (Ark.) 67 Speedway with the $5,555-to-win Kenneth Mitchell Memorial before invading Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Ark.) on Saturday, July 27 for the $5,000-to-win Hillbilly.

The CCSDS Super Late Model tire rule for the weekend is as follows:
Left Front Tire: Any Hoosier Tire (90)
Right Front Tire and Left Rear Tire: NLMT2 (90), NLMT3 (90)
Right Rear Tire: NLMT3 (92)
